A Win? . . . It's Bliss!

On Monday, Crawfish Shorts got a big maiden win at Finger Lakes race track in an outstanding effort at a distance he had not tried before.  In the six furlong race, Shortie broke well and then ran down a loose on the lead winner who had set easy fractions up front -- Shortie was the only one to close and won going away, a much improved performance and an impressive win for sure! We were pleased with the win, but the day was made even more special with the fact that our partners, Cheryl, Michael and Sue will also receive a nice breeders check as a result of the big "W" the horse got this week.  Further, with the horse going from 6-1 odds when I bet him in doubles to 14-1 at post time, I've heard a few of the partners did quite nicely cashing tickets on our boy!  He certainly was proud of himself after the race as these pictures with trainers Ron and Deb Breed and partner Kathy will attest:   The big gelding stands proud with trainer Ron Breed after his first win.                 Kathy, Deb, and Ron are all smiles as Crawfish Shorts holds his head high ...

Getting There . . .

Happy Pre-Saratoga Season! Once we hit July, it's only weeks from the first race at Saratoga -- so enjoy the build up to the greatest racing event in the country!  For Bliss Racing, it looks like we'll definitely have a horse racing at the track this summer, which is very good news indeed.  Prima Attrice ran well on June 29 and appears she will be competitive at the level she has been competing during the Saratoga race meet -- she finished fourth in a nice effort and we're hoping with a better trip, she'll improve on that and possibly get us to the winner's circle at the Spa! (We can dream, right?) Anyway, here are a few photos of the lovely Prima Attrice -- or Pete as we've called her since she was a baby -- from her last start at Belmont. As you can see from the photos, she is doing very well physically, and we hope her racing success will soon match her looks:       Pete's calm before the race . . .   Warming up nicely . . .   She is a close up 4th . . .  She sure is pretty -- a little tired after the race, but man does she look good! And if you've never ...

Happy Derby 2017!

Happy Derby 2017!! It's Derby Eve, and I just watched the Kentucky Oaks -- I picked 2 horses that I thought had a shot. One was a huge favorite and the other had finished 2nd to her last time and was second to the highly talented Unique Bella before that. The other horse, Abel Tasman, won the race -- I tell you this to explain 1. why you should stay away from my Derby picks and 2. to prove that when I don't post picks, I do well and when I do post, I'm likely to not hit the board.  That said, I see this year's Derby as one in which the likely favorites will be tough to beat.  I have some chalkie selections I know, so do with them what you will: 1. Irish War Cry - I love the Curlin's and the way this horse ran his last race; Motion knows how to get it done and I expect a strong showing. 2. Classic Empire -- A bit of a whack job (who doesn't love that?), but also supremely talented -- he beat Not This Time in the BC Juvenile and I thought Not This Time was a superior race horse. He's had some ...
