Cup O' Kindness

Happy 2018! As the year winds down, we have much to be thankful for as we look back at 2017 -- and, as is life, many of us in the partnership had our personal highs and lows.  For those we've lost, I like to think about a poem that contained a potential name (i.e., Remembered Joy) for one of our horses: I could not stay another day, To love, to laugh to work or play; Tasks left undone must stay that way. And if my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. So, for all we've lost this year and in previous years, don't let the end of the year get you thinking about what you've lost with their passing, but remember the good times, the laughs you had - as the poem suggests, fill the season and year with remembered joy.   For those wonderful things that happened this past year, we need to celebrate - in particular, I know I failed to mention our partners and friends, Jack and Michelle, becoming grandparents as their son Matt became an uncle for the first time!  Congratulations to all!  Whatever your personal triumph or success, please know we're happy ...

For Pete's Sake . . .

Hopefully you enjoyed the terrific racing this weekend - the Breeders Cup longshots really made the day exciting and kept a few of us kicking ourselves for picking Saturday as the day to get off the Bar of Gold bandwagon! Anyway, I hope you cashed a few tickets and enjoyed all the racing and college football which made for quite a fine weekend. A Win? . . . It's Bliss!

On Monday, Crawfish Shorts got a big maiden win at Finger Lakes race track in an outstanding effort at a distance he had not tried before.  In the six furlong race, Shortie broke well and then ran down a loose on the lead winner who had set easy fractions up front -- Shortie was the only one to close and won going away, a much improved performance and an impressive win for sure! We were pleased with the win, but the day was made even more special with the fact that our partners, Cheryl, Michael and Sue will also receive a nice breeders check as a result of the big "W" the horse got this week.  Further, with the horse going from 6-1 odds when I bet him in doubles to 14-1 at post time, I've heard a few of the partners did quite nicely cashing tickets on our boy!  He certainly was proud of himself after the race as these pictures with trainers Ron and Deb Breed and partner Kathy will attest:   The big gelding stands proud with trainer Ron Breed after his first win.                 Kathy, Deb, and Ron are all smiles as Crawfish Shorts holds his head high ...
